Self-Referential Processing Effects of Non-invasive Brain Stimulation: A Systematic Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Systematic reviews of neuroimaging studies confirm stimulus-induced activity in response to verbal and non-verbal self-referential processing (SRP) cortical midline structures, temporoparietal cortex insula. Whether SRP can be causally modulated by way non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) has also been investigated several studies. Here we summarize the NIBS literature including 27 task-based comparing between tasks. The differed design, experimental tasks parameters. Results support role left inferior parietal lobule (left IPL) for medial prefrontal when valenced stimuli were used. Further, results roles bilateral lobe (IPL, posterior cingulate cortex), sensorimotor areas (the primary sensory motor cortex, premotor extrastriate body area) insula (bodily self-consciousness). We conclude that may differentially modulate targeting corresponding areas.

Non-invasive brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature.

A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to quantify the efficacy of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for the treatment of motor dysfunction in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Prospective studies which evaluated the effects of either TMS (12 studies) or ECT (five studies) on motor function in PD using the motor subscale of the Unifi...

Does non-invasive brain stimulation modify hand dexterity? Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis

INTRODUCTION Dexterity is described as coordinated hand and finger movement for precision tasks. It is essential for day-to-day activities like computer use, writing or buttoning a shirt. Integrity of brain motor networks is crucial to properly execute these fine hand tasks. When these networks are damaged, interventions to enhance recovery are frequently accompanied by unwanted side effects or...

Does non-invasive brain stimulation reduce essential tremor? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Essential tremor (ET) is the most common age-related disease leading to abnormal tremulous behaviors in the upper and lower extremities. Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) may be an effective ET therapy by modulating the oscillating network of the brain. The current systematic review and meta-analysis examined the effects of NIBS interventions on tremor symptoms in ET patients. Our comprehen...
